Please, please, can I warn all dog owners at this time of year in the U.K. about the dangers of dogs eating preparations that we use on our gardens to kill slugs!

The garden centres have sold out of slug pellets due to the wet summer - so millions of them are lying around on the soil just waiting for dogs to sniff them! If they contain Metaldehyde, they can be fatal if eaten by dogs.

As a Veterinary nurse, I have seen two dogs today who are on drips and fighting for their lives because of slug pellets - they may not survive! please check before using them, and watch that your dogs do not stray on cultivated areas where keen gardeners may have put them down.
