Belgian Shepherd Dogs & CC status
Following the Kennel Club's announcement that Belgian Shepherd Dogs will revert
to being registered as four separate varieties from January 1, 2000 the KC General
Committee has given consideration to a number of issues resulting from this
decision.
Challenge Certificate Allocation:
The Committee agreed that both the Groenendael and Tervueren
varieties should be allocated championship status with 16 sets of CCs on offer
for Groenendaels and 23 sets of CCs for Tervuerens. These CCs have been allocated
to the following Clubs for the years 2000 and 2001:
Groenendaels:
Crufts, Birmingham DSS, SKC (May), WKC, National Working and Pastoral Breeds
DS, Working and Pastoral Breeds Association of Wales, Working and Pastoral Breeds
Association of Scotland, BDA of GB, Northern Belgian Shepherd DC, Three Counties
AS, Blackpool & District CS, Paignton & District FanciersÕ Assoc., SKC
(Aug), City of Birmingham CA, Driffield AS, LKA.
Tervuerens:
Crufts, Birmingham DSS, SKC (May), WKC, National Working
and Pastoral Breeds DS, Working and Pastoral Breeds Association of Wales, Working
and Pastoral Breeds Association of Scotland, BDA of GB, Northern Belgian Shepherd
DC, Manchester Dog Show Society, WELKS, Bath CS, Southern Counties CA, Border
Union AS, Windsor Dog Show Society, South Wales KA, East of England AS, Leeds
City CA, Bournemouth CA, Richmond Dog Show Society, Darlington Dog Show Society,
Midland Counties CS, LKA.
This allocation does not disenfranchise any judging contracts for the year
2000 as each championship show which has an allocation of Belgian Shepherd Dogs
for next year has received an allocation of CCs whether it is for both varieties
or just one variety.
Amendments to B Regulations:
The following amendments to B Regulations will be effective from January 1,
2000:
1. Annex A to B Regulations
Delete Belgian Shepherd Dog from the Pastoral Group and insert:
Belgian Shepherd Dog (Groenendael)
Belgian Shepherd Dog (Laekenois)
Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois)
Belgian Shepherd Dog (Tervueren)
2. Add 'Belgian Shepherd Dogs' to the list of breeds which form sub-groups
3. Annex D to B Regulations
Add an additional paragraph as follows:
1. When Belgian Shepherd Dogs are mated any dog in the result-ing litter shall
be entered in the register of the breed to which its coat and/or colour most
closely conforms.
Championship show judges:
Also with effect from January 1, 2000 all judges currently
approved for Belgian Shepherd Dogs will be reclassified to judge both Groenendael
and Tervueren varieties at championshp shows. it should also be noted that future
championship show judges' nominations must indicate whether the appointment
is for either the Groenendael or Tervueren variety rather than just Belgian
Shepherd Dogs as is current practice.
Show classification:
From January 1, 2000, General Canine Societies may schedule
separate classes for each Belgian Shepherd Dog variety if they so wish. The
resulting Best of Breeds will then be eligible for the group and/or Best in
Show competitions. Classes scheduled as AV Belgian Shepherd Dog, or Belgian
Shepherd Dog without the separate variety name, will have the same status as
all other variety classes. At breed club shows the Best in Show Regulation that
will be applicable is that for sub-group shows (F(1)27d.(2)refers).
